Barbara Bolt

Barbara Bolt is a practising artist and art theorist whose current art practice is concerned with acts and observations of the everyday while her writing addresses the dialogue between theory and practice and between digital and analogue painting from a “new materialisms” perspective.

Since 2017 Barbara has adopted the iPad as her medium of choice to develop a daily practice of drawing and painting and Instagram and Facebook as her exhibition platform. Moving between “reportage” of the everyday events of her life and intensive observational works of the world within her orb, these iPad and iPhone generated images open up a different kind of pictorial space and a different relation to the natural and artifactual worlds we live in. The current series of still life images reference the Dutch vanitas paintings from the seventeenth century. Here these single mortal everyday objects take on the burden of our mortality in a time of great uncertainty.
