You can make the world a better place by building diversity in the art world. As a community based not-for-profit organisation, Satellite Projects relies on the goodwill and support of volunteers. As a trained volunteer you will be part of a dynamic team providing support to artists without gallery representation and artists from diverse and challenging backgrounds…and you will make some new friends along the way!
volunteer curators
Satellite Projects is looking for volunteer curators.
Key duties:
- Exhibition management including: selection of artists; selection of artworks; liaison with artist; loan agreement; essay preparation; logistic; installation and dismantling of exhibitions.
- Collaboration with other team members.
- Liaison with Satellite Projects’ marketing people to ensure appropriate and relevant material is provided for the purposes of email news, social media channels etc.
As a volunteer curator, you might be involved in all of the above, or just some aspects. It will depend on your availability, area/s of interest and level of experience.
Skills and experience:
You must have a sound understanding of contemporary art. Curatorial experience would be very helpful.
Benefits to you:
Artists often find it very difficult to promote their work, generate and hold attention or gain traction in the art market. It’s a bigger challenge if they are marginalised due to their socio-economic status, race, gender, health and disability challenges, sexuality, gender identity or cultural differences.
As a volunteer, you would help to make a difference in promoting opportunities for artists facing disadvantage, discrimination and marginalisation.
At Satellite Projects we open up opportunities for unrepresented artists to extend and consolidate their professional arts practice. We provide free exhibition opportunities in a safe way to enable artists to build their networks and work towards having sustainable art careers.
Join our team, gain experience and help marginalised artists to move one more rung up the ladder to success.
How to apply:
